With These Hands

A series of hand castings of residents of Richmond. The project seeks to illustrate both the similarities and differences of people living in close proximity, but as a result of where they live, have very different average life expectancies. The sculptures interweave personal histories to challenge assumptions about the different socioeconomic realities wrapped up in the American Dream. The project provokes reflection on existing stereotypes about poverty, class, and race. This project was supported by the Richmond Memorial Health Foundation.
